Nigerian Soldiers Allegedly Combat With IPOB Members

There was chaos in Ogboro, Orlu, Imo State, on Monday 25/1/2021 when the conflict between the Eastern Security Network (ESN) and soldiers became worsened. Sources informed the Nigerian Tribune that the soldiers, who were primarily assigned to dismantle the arrangement of the ESN, were almost subdued by the greater forces of the IPOB vigilante, which resulted to the alleged killing of one of the soldiers during a gun battle.

It appears that annoyed by the killing, the soldiers withdrew and launched retaliation, firing at irregular intervals and killing some of the people.

According to one a witness, “the soldiers got back in search of the vigilante who murdered their colleague, but in the process began firing at everyone they spot. I can’t really say how many died, but they are much because I counted over 10.”

Responding to the conflict, the media and publicity secretary of IPOB, Emma Powerful, said “I have spoken countless times, did we walk to their base to look for their problem or they came into our forest to assault us?”

As of the time of compiling this statement, most of the inhabitants from the distraught area have departed from their homes, as worry saturated the community.

Meanwhile, Governor Hope Uzodimma has forced a dusk-to-dawn curfew in the affected areas, just as he ordered security agencies to fish out the perpetrators.

He maintained that the curfew was a temporal measure to without delay reinstate peace in Orlu, Orsu, Oru East, Oru West, Ideato North, Ideato South, Njaba, Isu, Nwangele and Nkwerre local government areas of Orlu zone.

In a report signed by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr Oguwike Nwachwuku, Uzodimma said “I have ordered the security department to fish out, without fail, all those behind the killing and at once bring them to book.”

There was chaos in Olorunlere village in Ado-Odo Ota Local Government of Ogun State when alleged rice smugglers and men of the Ogun 1 Command of the Nigeria Customs Service there was firing of gunshot close to Alapoti, not distant from Olorunlere. This is straight as the Customs has confirmed the disappearance of one of its officers, CA I (T) Taiwo J Odeyemi whose whereabouts is yet to be ascertained as at the time of filing in this report.

In a statement made available to newsmen on Friday, Spokesperson of the Ogun 1 Command of the NCS, Hammed Bukoye Oloyede clarified that the hoodlums, in order to evade arrest by the Customs perambulation team, began shooting at the Custom officers who also responded.

On Thursday, 3/12/2020 Officers of the Nigeria Customs Service, Ogun I Command during a mobile perambulation near Olorunlere village, close to Alapoti, Ado-Odo Ota Local Government Area of Ogun State stopped some cars loaded with belongings of foreign parboiled rice.

The supposed gangsters, detecting their defeat on spotting the patrol team, tried to avoid arrest and ultimately began shooting intermittently at the Officers. This caused a severe exchange of shots between the two sides.

As a result, the patrol requested for support. Though, before the intervention from other units, they were overpowered as a result to the numeric forte of the smugglers/gangsters.

In the subsequent uproar, the Customs team strategically withdrew to permit the coming of the support’s teams.

On arrival of the armed officers and other divisions of Customs with Federal Operations Unit (FOU) as demanded by the CAC, the gangsters had already wrecked one of the official cars given to the squad.

It was later discovered that an official driver, CA I (T) Taiwo J Odeyemi was lost and has not been discovered as at the time of scripting this statement.

Currently, examination is continuing and effort is being made along with other security organizations and other serious investors to trace the location of the disappeared officer and save him alive.

The CAC intensely warned smugglers and their cohorts that the nonstop assaults left Officers with no choice than to use suitable force to tackle these recent surfs of illegal assaults on personnel carrying out their constitutional roles.

The Command is not discouraged by this and will step up its offensive against those whose interest is to make profits at the expense of the Nation. Lastly, the CAC has promised to guarantee that those responsible for this violence face the full fury of the law and justice.”

For certain inhabitants of Olorunlere, the gunfire sent ample dashing into their homes as no one was aware of where the exchange of fire was coming from.

When we heard the gunshots, many fled into their homes because it began unexpectedly. We didn’t know who was firing or being fired at,” an occupant who pleaded not to have his name publicized explained.
